Dysmorphia is a personal exploration of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). BDD is an obsession with real or imagined flaws of the physical body that manifests into overwhelming thoughts and compulsive behaviors: mine manifest into looking in mirrors often, avoiding social situations, hair pulling (trichotillomania) and skin picking (dermatillomania). As a fat-bodied person, my dysmorphic thoughts are tied to the desire of becoming small and compact. Therefore, I digitally manipulate bodies to fill familiar spaces to illustrate how these repetitive traits become mundane rituals to those with the disorder.

While Body Dysmorphic Disorder involves compulsive thoughts and behaviors, and kinks, fetishes and BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Sadism, and Masochism) navigates the expression of human sexuality, I am fascinated by how they are all intimate, often concealed, and engage the body and mind. I am particularly interested in using the accessories, materials and spaces of the kink, fetish and BDSM community to distort the human body and heal from the symptoms that once isolated me.

Dysmorphia reflects the mind in turmoil driven by dysmorphic experiences and confronts the objects and environments that provoke them.
